How I solved my dry skin problem in Finland

Introduction
I am an Asian who has been living in Finland since 2018. Because I was used to the humid climate in Asia, I initially had a lot of difficulty dealing with dry and itchy skin here. Fortunately, I spent time researching and eventually found a solution. Today, I would like to share my experience with you, and I hope it might be helpful in some way.

Solution
-
Take fewer showers
Showering every day can dry out your skin, especially in a cold and dry climate. Reducing it to about three times per week can help maintain your skin’s natural moisture.
-
Use a humidity meter
Measure the humidity level in your apartment or room so you can monitor whether the air is too dry. I have been using the ThermoPro TP49W-3, and it's very convenient because it shows both temperature and humidity.
-
Use a humidifier
A humidifier can help maintain a healthy indoor humidity level. Aim for at least 30% humidity to keep your skin from drying out. I have been using these evaporative humidifiers because they work through natural evaporation, keeping the air clean and reducing the buildup of bacteria compared to other types.

Use a moisturizer for dry skin
Keeping your skin well-moisturized is essential. Using a good dry skin cream regularly can help prevent dryness and irritation. My recommendation is to use the Alkmene Intensive Skin Cream for dry skin. It works well and is reasonably priced.
Conclusion
Dealing with dry, itchy skin in a new climate can be frustrating, but with a few simple adjustments to your daily routine, it is entirely manageable. By showering a little less frequently, monitoring your indoor humidity, using an evaporative humidifier, and applying an intensive moisturizer, you can keep your skin hydrated and healthy. I hope these tips help you feel more comfortable during those harsh, dry Nordic winters!
